About Department
Medical Microbiology is a rapidly evolving field in modern medicine, playing a crucial role in understanding diseases. Microbial infections account for over 50% of hospital cases, and recent studies show that conditions such as peptic ulcers, cancer, and diabetes often have microbial origins. The Department of Microbiology at Army Medical College Rangpur offers comprehensive training to 4th-year MBBS students, focusing on bacteriology, virology, immunology, parasitology, and mycology. The aim is to equip students with knowledge about disease mechanisms, immune responses, laboratory diagnostics, and clinical interpretation of lab results. The department also emphasizes the treatment of microbial diseases and infection control. A total of 190 teaching hours is allocated to the subject, with 100 hours dedicated to theoretical lectures and 90 hours to tutorials and practical sessions.
